Forte Engineering worked closely with Story Contracting to successfully deliver the electrical installation of 13 high mast lighting columns within the traction maintenance depot, situated on the Edinburgh and Hawick Railway, near Millerhill, Scotland.
The purpose of the additional lighting was to illuminate the sidings within the adjacent DB Schenker yard and allow their staff to work safely in the hours of darkness.
To facilitate this, Forte Engineering carried out the following works:
The project wasn’t without its challenges. Due to possession limits and pinch points on site, there was only one shift available for the team to install the sub-main cable through a UTX situated out with the depot boundaries. Forte Engineering successfully planned and resourced the shift ensuring that all materials and plant were in place and the cable was installed without any issues.
The excellent communication between Forte Engineering and Story Contracting was paramount to the project’s success, with both site teams working in tandem to deliver an excellent end product.
Stephen Haggarty, Scheme Project Manager at Story Contracting said, “We selected Forte Engineering for the work as they were the best fit for the Millerhill project. They had the expertise and experience to deliver exactly what we needed, within our budget and timescales. The team at Forte Engineering are great and have a lot of knowledge on M&E projects within the railway industry. Project Engineer Chris Conachy was really responsive, always on hand when required, solving problems as they arose, and communication between Chris and the Story team was excellent. Both organisations worked collaboratively to deliver all aspects of the works to ensure the project met its delivery timescales. We look forward to working with them on more projects in the future.”
Forte Engineering’s Project Engineer Chris Conachy said, “Despite the tight time constraints, we completed all the elements of the project, including all hand back documentation, ahead of schedule. This coincided with a successful site visit by SVM (designers) and Network Rail. As a contractor, we focus on delivering good communication; without it a job like this wouldn’t be as successful. This was our first project with Story Contracting and we look forward to working with them on other projects in the future. “
