Forte Engineering is working with Babcock International Group (Babcock) to enhance public transport services in the Lisburn area of Northern Ireland.
Babcock, which is leading the programme to upgrade signalling, improve track layout and extend platform three at Lambed Station, has appointed Forte Engineering to provide upgrades to the electrical power supplies for the signalling and track systems.
Speaking on behalf of Forte Engineering, Derek Riddell, Managing Director, said: “It is great to be part of such a transformative project. We have recently started the civil works at Lisburn and look forward to working with the team at Babcock as well as the other supply chain partners to meet the project objectives.”
The works form part of the Lisburn Area Renewal (LAR) project, a signalling and track renewal project from Lambeg Station (2.5km north of Lisburn Station) to Lissue level crossing (3.5km south west of Lisburn station).
The project is part of Translink’s work to transform public transport in Northern Ireland to create advanced public transport services and integrated networks to connect people and communities, enhance the economy and improve health and the environment.
The works, which are expected to be completed in Spring 2024, will ensure high safety standards and operational performance are maintained, in turn helping to increase the reliability of the service and reduce future maintenance.
